Roblox — in-game messaging and friend requests

Gaming Platforms Impersonation

Users can message and send friend requests to other players. Adults sometimes pose as children to befriend and groom kids. In-game chat and private messages are common vectors for inappropriate contact.

March 2026: Arrest of independent creator (not a Roblox employee)

In March 2026, a New Orleans man (Jamie Borne, 30) was arrested by Homeland Security for possessing child pornography and importing a child sex doll. During police questioning he said he was a "programmer for Roblox." Roblox quickly clarified that he was not and had never been an employee—he was one of over 2 million independent creators who build experiences on the platform. The company deactivated his experiences and banned his accounts under its off-platform behavior policy.

Why this matters for parents: Roblox relies on millions of unvetted creators. The platform has community standards and can ban users for off-platform conduct, but it does not employ or background-check creators. Louisiana's Attorney General had already sued Roblox in 2025, alleging it fails to protect children from predators. This case illustrates both the speed of Roblox's response when harm is reported and the reality that anyone can create content on the platform.
